principles of REACT.
Objective

3. Provide a solid definition of mental health and explain why it is important for high school readiness.
4. Introduce the meaning of REACT (REACT en espaƱol) and how it connects with our experience of mental health.
5. Provide a general overview of what each week of the program will involve.
Approach
1. Students gain insight into mental health and REACT through activities and guided discovery.
Activities
1. Facilitators ask students what comes to mind when they think of the term "mental health". Anyone who responds receives a Jolly Rancher candy. Facilitators then integrate all the students' responses into definition of mental health as defined by HS REACT.
2. Break out into small groups. Each group will have a poster with a letter of the REACT acronym R, E, A, C, T and will have to write words or ideas on the poster that define each letter. What words come to you when you come to mind when you think of Respect, Empathy, etc. Facilitators then hold up each of the posters integrate all the students' responses.
